Kōmako Gardens is a multidisciplinary gardening practice working on the Matakana Coast. We work closely with you and the land, bringing together plants and structure to create an orchestrated combination of form and colour.

Softscaping and Maintenance

Gardens are constantly changing, moving with the elements and communicating with the surrounding ecologies. We maintain your garden and support them to develop organically through nurturing, feeding and seasonal gardening practices. Our services include trimming, pruning, hedges, topiaries, lawn care, debris clearance, fertilising, mulching, weeding, and the control of pests and diseases to keep your garden thriving and looking serene. A regular schedule or on request basis is available.

Hedges and Trees

Hedges and trees can reinforce the architecture of your home. They perform best when properly pruned, regularly trimmed and fertilised when needed. We can take care of the seasonal pruning of fruit and ornamental trees and shrubs, to keep them healthy and producing a maximum yield. Offering hedge and tree care up to 4 metres, no need to call an arborist. We have the tools and know how to keep these specimens looking their best.

Design and Consultation

Whether starting from scratch or looking to adapt and develop an existing space, we can work with you and your unique site to create a garden that benefits your needs and the locations natural rhythm. With a considered balance of design and plant knowledge we can bring your vision to life. This process proceeds with an on site consultation, followed by preliminary sketches and an in depth plant palette, focussing on the integration of New Zealand natives and exotic flora.

HEAD GARDENER

Established in 2023, Kōmako Gardens is a small family-run business helmed by Morgan Mardell. With a background in graphic design and illustration, Morgan developed an insight into composition, material detail and architectural spaces, later making a career change to work with nature and plants to further expand his lexicon of horticulture. Drawing on knowledge from working in some of Auckland’s most prestigious residential and organic market gardens, he has developed a strong sensibility for the symbiotic relationship within the nature of gardens and loves to share his knowledge with others.
